Insure You and Your Family

Posted on October 5th, 2010 in Home And Well Being

A friend of mine who was confined in the hospital for a week told me that she had been thinking about her family’s future while she’s sick.  Not being able to provide a stable future for their child, I think it is one of the greatest fears every parent has. Thankfully, there are many ways for us to secure our family’s future in case something bad happens; one of them is by getting a term insurance plan. Term insurance offers the most affordable life insurance coverage for your family, so getting one will not ruin your budget.

Term insurance covers a person against death until the specific term expires. For example, the term might be until all the children have grown, or until they have already finished college. Choosing the right company to get it is another story. There are numerous companies which offer term insurances but with varying rates. That is why it is recommended to research and compare term insurance rates.

On the other hand, although term life insurance is cheaper than regular permanent life insurance it has no cash value.  Meaning if no claim has been made during the policy duration you cannot guarantee that you will receive your money back.  Well, still its better not to claim a life insurance because it means you are still alive and kicking.

5th Wheel Insurance?

Posted on September 5th, 2010 in Others

The fifth wheel type of recreational vehicle (RV) has a towable trailer affixed or connected to it. Typically a pick-up truck that has a special hitch in the truck
bed, it is especially suitable for family vacations and weekend getaways as it can come with all the comforts of home. The towing vehicle can easily be detached so that it can be used for conventional purposes. The weight of the trailer must match the weight of the towing vehicle. The trailer’s design is bi-level which places the master’s bedroom above the truck bed. The 5th wheel is easier and safer to tow than a regular trailer but would require more caution and skill in handling than motor homes. Its introduction has given way to a specialized insurance called the 5th Wheel Insurance.

A 5th wheel insurance policy takes into account several factors including the RV type and model, the state in which the policy is issued, driving history of the insured parties, other vehicles in the household and the amount of coverage desired, among others. It is not advisable to insure an RV with a regular auto policy because of the significant coverage gaps that may arise resulting from full time liability, campsite liability, emergency expenses and replacement cost of personal belongings. Due to the fact that an RV’s size is significantly larger than a car, the potential damage that it can cause is also bigger thus the need for greater financial protection.

The Importance of Car Insurance

Posted on March 13th, 2010 in Home and Shopping

When we still don’t have a  car – I care less about insurance and all kinds of stuffs. For me, they are all nothing but additional expenses. This perception changed when we got our house and car.

I never worried so much about the fire insurance for our house. I became more concern on the car insurance. Last year was my first car insurance policy purchase. It was a smooth transaction. It was August 2009. Late September came typhoon Ketsana (Ondoy) which devastated most places in our cities including properties. We were so lucky our garage is knee high from the main road. The flood reached the garage but we were not severely impacted.

After that incident, car insurance companies were swamped with policy claims for repairs and replacements. Those who have insurance may have had delays in claims but definitely most of them were granted – if “acts of God” is included in their policy. It was a lesson learned for those who doesn’t have insurance. Most paid a large amount of money for repairs, while some really lost.

It was a lesson for all of us, so this year, as my policy expires, I will surely get a new one. You’ll never know :)
