What is the difference between the tights stocking and hold-ups

Posted on February 20th, 2011 in Others

To date, hosiery types are growing in numbers especially with the growing number of great designers like Henry Holland. Three of the popular types include tights, stockings, and hold-ups.  Definitely, tights are the most known type and they cover the whole leg from waist to feet. These tights come in different thickness and are normally made of nylon but sometimes are in combination with Lycra. Tights can be worn all year round however, there are also tights designed for winter use and are made of wool.

Stockings – the difference between a stocking and a tights is that, stocking does not cover up to the waistline but it stops right on top of the thighs. To keep them in place, users must put some garter belt and suspenders. Like tights, stockings are also made of nylon and come sexier compared to tights mainly because of its suspenders. One can barely see a stocking made of materials other than nylon and fishnet. In addition, they are also rarely used in winter unless it is needed to complete an outfit or fashion theme.

Hold-ups – this one is similar to stockings however, without the suspender. The holds up are independent with each other and stop on the thigh. The only thing that held the hold-ups in place is  the elastic silicone strip that is sewn on top of the hold-up.

Even if stockings, hold-ups, and tights are similar, the three also has differences when it comes to purpose and preferences. Normally, tights are worn daily normally in a workplace.
