What Are SD Cards?

Posted on September 8th, 2010 in Others

The flash memory that is usually used in gadgets like digital cameras, cellular phones, media players and video games is called a Secure Digital card. It is better known as an SD card.  It comes in various capacities and transfer speeds and is no bigger than a postage stamp.    With SD cards, it is easier to store and transfer images, music, video and other data from a portable device to a PC. Some computer has a built-in card reader, which is needed to transport the data from your memory card to your PC.  If you’re PC doesn’t have a card reader you can purchase it in any electronic stores everywhere.  Just be sure that the card reader you will purchase is made for the SD memory card or is capable of reading various formats. Besides from the standard SD memory card, there are also miniSD and microSD cards. These cards are much smaller and not well-suited with standard SD memory card slots. Take note of the digital device maximum capacity stated by it’s manufacturer.  Some device is designed to use cards up to 512MB, using a higher SD memory card will be not viable in the device but a lower than the maximum capacity is acceptable.
