When you need to shop for a particular item, think about the best time to buy. Is there a best time to purchase a car or a home?  While it may not be so simple to narrow down the best time to make major purchases such as these, this logic does apply to another common household purchase: clothes.

Clothes are consumer products that are sensitive to a wide variety of factors, and one of those is the time of year. Certain times of the year are better than others for finding good discounts on clothing. Consider seasonal changes and how those changes drive people to shop for certain kinds of clothes. Winter and summer offer considerable opportunities for shoppers to take advantage of clearance sales designed to do away with a prior season’s inventory in order to open up space for the upcoming or current season’s inventory. Another time of the year that will bring deep discounts to the clothing racks is the beginning of the school year, traditionally August or September.  This is a particularly busy time of the year for childrens clothes shopping. It’s a chance for families to take advantage of considerable discounts aimed at attracting back-to-school shoppers.

In terms of clothes for children, including toddlers and infants, timing one’s shopping to coincide with particular seasonal fluctuations in price and availability is often a good consideration when you want to save money. You’ll want to take advantage of sales because so often, children outgrow their clothing in relatively short periods of time. Of course, clothes for children are also comparatively less expensive than clothes for other age groups. One strategy to consider is buying up a size or two when seasonal clothes are on sale. You can almost create an entire wardrobe on the cheap for next winter by shopping for sweaters, coats, and jeans in the spring.
