Typhoon “Ondoy” Hit Manila

Posted on September 28th, 2009 in Personal

I was home on Friday. I did not go to work because I was sick so I am stuck in my room and checking emails and uploading layouts for a digiscrap gallery. It was late evening when our internet connection became intermittent. I did not bother, for I knew it was normal. It was raining that evening and it has been normal as well. At least I thought.

I woke up early Saturday morning to host a speed scrap for My Life and Scrap and was devastated to find out that we don’t have internet connection. It was still raining. I went back to sleep and woke up at 9AM and it was still raining. Raining as if it doesn’t want to stop. Yes, it continued to rain non-stop! And before we realize, our place is already flooded. Our town is in higher ground than the rest of the nearby towns so I was already getting more worried because the flood already reached our garage. To think that the garage is elevated up to thigh from the road. It was a terrifying site.

Next, we lost power. It was a good thing I fully charged my phone the night before because I kept on calling my parents, my in-laws and my sisters and friends. We don’t have news about the other towns that day. The rain stopped a bit in the afternoon and the flood subsided a little.

The next morning, when the power was restored, we checked on TV and it was even more terrifying. Nearby towns like Cainta, Marikina and Pasig were submerged in flood. A lot of families are waiting to be rescued from their roof tops. The roads are all flooded. It was like an ocean in the city. And that was the first time I saw something like that.

More than 60,000 families were affected. 73 died and 23 were still missing as of yesterday’s new. According to the news, typhoon Ondoy was the strongest typhoon that hit Manila in 42 years. It carried too much rain. This is such a sad news for everyone.

My family is safe and we are all ok but there are still others waiting to be rescued. Right now, food and clean water is a major problem by most people. We’re lucky though that we still have enough.

To date, there are still a number of friends I can’t contact and I am hoping they are also ok.
