Successful Migration

Posted on March 20th, 2009 in Domain And Hosting

I actually had a tough day today. Earlier today, I made several changes to Home and Parenting blog which eventually, lead me to decide and move my blogger account to WordPress. So the story started.

I initially worked on the new domain and was confident enough that I will be able to finish it in a matter of 2 or 3 hours. I was right! My admin this morning was very helpful enough to look over my concerns. I actually did not do anything on the cpanel – yes, they did everything for me because I don’t have patience in dealing with the technicalities – I was working from home today and is also monitoring a couple of activities so I cannot fully dedicate my time to it.

To continue, as I’ve said, I decided to move this blog from blogger to WordPress which I thought would also be easier. Unfortunately, when I was playing around the cpanel way back in November, I installed a couple of software and therefore, the admin cannot install WordPress. He told me that we have to delete everything if I want to proceed. We need to redo Blog Appetite which I agree. When WordPress was successfully installed, I just realized that my posts were not migrated – Oh my God! I was like – “Do I need to redo everything?”

Luckily, there are a couple of tutorials I’ve found on the internet but this one from Tech Corner was just perfect! I didn’t even know that there is a plugin to migrate your blogger to WordPress and it was very easy. The widgets were not include though, but who cares? The hardes things to migrate in a blog are the posts and the comments. Right now, Blog Appetite is already up and running again – now powered by WordPress and hosted by Web Hosting Pad

I specifically would like to thank my admins who helped me throughout the day – Mabin and Amal of Web Hosting Pad. They really did their best to help me out and they were very very kind to me. Quite the best customer service for me! I hope they can read this so they will know how grateful I am for their help.

  1. Is this on a WP platform? It is no way different than your Blogger host?
Congrats for the final move. My new domain is up but I still have to learn a lot to work through WP. Good thing, we have friends around here who really are sincerely extending their support and help.

  2. hi bingkee – yep this is already in WP. Good thing about the theme is that they have WP and blogger version so I retained my old theme. Not sure if I am going to change it yet because there are a couple of things I need to do with the other site..so happy you visited :)

  3. Well it looks perfect so congrats! I recently moved from my own domain to blogger – I was worried that if I were to die one day then who would pay my host? Morbid, I know. But I feel more comfortable with everything on a free platform now.

  4. hi emm – you think too much! how’s your new york travel? i hope you enjoyed it

  5. Mye,

Nice to know you already finished transfer from B to WP.

It seems you still have some things to do like your blogroll, widgets, adgitize and other stuff. I have seen this yet on your new domain.

    More power to your blog.

  9. What made you decide to move from Blogger to wordpress? Because seriously, after reading this post I am having 2 thoughts, I’ve just bought a domain and it’s sitting in blogger.. is there anything wrong about it?

  10. there’s nothing wrong really – for me, it was mere preference but i know there are other reasons out there saying WordPress is better than blogger. i hope you’ll find your answer :)

  11. @Mye, oh okay thank you so much for the quick reply… I thought there is a huge difference when it comes to SEO structure I was quite worried. But thanks really, now I can relax.
